In the 1910s there were three main Art movements to note; Cubism, Expressionism and Geometric Abstraction. These movements aimed to buck the trend of past art movements by focusing less on perfectly replicating the artists subject onto the canvas. While Cubism showed multiple angles of the subject that is pieced together to create a distorted image, Expressionism looked to oppose traditional movements by conveying meaning rather than to recreating the subject. Geometric Abstraction on the other hand aims to use basic shapes to represent instead of detailed strokes.
